About this spot

Located in Montezuma, Costa Rica, this site is accessed by heading west along the primary road past Lucy's Restaurant. Beyond the bridge, look for a "Las Cascadas" marker and turn right at the subsequent intersection, then drive uphill on the steep road. Continue past the butterfly farm and take another right onto a dirt and grass track. Drive to its terminus at a half-circle jungle gym structure. A clearing on the left side of the vegetation marks the beginning of a stairway leading downward. Bear left as you descend and continue until reaching the river. Following the water's current brings you to two waterfall sections with a rope swing available. The first waterfall measures 10-15 feet in height, while the second reaches approximately 35-40 feet. A 90-foot waterfall exists downstream but is not recommended for jumping due to obscured safe landing zones and a history of tourist fatalities at this location. Occasionally, local jumpers may demonstrate this higher drop, though attempting it without local knowledge carries significant risk.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
