About this spot
Head south on CA-55 toward Newport Beach for 8.6 miles, then merge onto CA-73 S toward San Diego via the toll road for 2.8 miles. Continue by merging onto MacArthur Boulevard toward Newport Beach for 3.1 miles, then turn left onto East Coast Highway/CA-1 for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto Orchid Avenue and park on nearby residential streets—parking is generally available, especially during off-season periods. From your parking spot, walk down a steep sandy hill to reach the beach. Head approximately half a mile south along the rocks to find the jump site. Multiple jumping locations exist in this area, but this spot offers the most straightforward access and reasonable safety conditions. A rope typically hangs from the rocks for climbing; if unavailable, free-climbing is manageable. The southern portion of the rock formation provides the best jumping angle with adequate water depth beneath it. Proper footwear is essential due to sharp, jagged rocks covering the beach and area. Timing your visit around low tide is crucial—arriving at low tide and departing after it rises helps ensure your exit path remains accessible. The walk to the site crosses extensive rocky terrain and tidal pools, making shoes strongly preferable to sandals. Beach access serves as the sole route to reach the jumping location, as the surrounding cliffs and residential properties restrict alternative pathways. Position yourself one or two blocks south of Orchid Avenue, or at the point where Orchid Avenue meets the ocean.
