About this spot
McCloud Falls comprises three waterfalls—Lower, Middle, and Upper—along the McCloud River in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, east of the town of McCloud off Highway 89. Free day-use parking lots and a riverside trail (about 3 miles round trip) serve all three. This pin sits near Middle Falls, the area's known jump zone, with reported lines around 35 and 50 feet off ledges beside the falls; a steeper roughly 75-foot line has been used by experienced jumpers only. Lower Falls offers a gentler ~12-foot ledge. Water is cold and clear with a strong plunge-pool current, and erosion has reportedly shifted boulders into the landing zone, so scout depth before jumping. Open year-round with no fee; flows vary seasonally—check current conditions.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
