About this spot

Head east on Highway 299 from Redding toward Burney, then turn left onto Big Bend Road. Continue for roughly half a mile until you spot the Hatchet Creek sign positioned just before a small bridge. Leave vehicles in the nearby gravel area and walk a short distance upstream to reach the falls. The water provides adequate depth for safe landings. Early season visits (such as April) warrant extra caution due to flow conditions. This location attracts experienced jumpers who perform flips and gainers regularly, with a notable gainer executed from the tallest formation. Jump options include a log ranging from approximately 15 to 45 feet, a smaller cliff at around 40 feet, and a primary cliff reaching approximately 55 feet in height.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
