About this spot

Located near Los Angeles, this spot features a swimming area adjacent to the jumping zone with three jumps measuring approximately 25, 30, and 56 feet. The water reaches depths of roughly 30 feet. From La Canada, start at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway (4593 SR-2). Head north on Angeles Crest Highway for 9.3 miles, then turn left onto Angeles Forest Highway. After 6.0 miles, you'll reach the main turnout for Monkey Canyon. If you have a parking pass, park here; otherwise, continue 1.8 miles to a cafe where you can purchase a day pass for approximately $5. Return south on Angeles Forest Highway for 1.8 miles to park at the turnout. From Sunland, begin at Foothill Boulevard and Oro Vista Avenue (10515 Oro Vista Ave). Drive north on Oro Vista for 0.9 miles until the road becomes Big Tujunga Canyon Road following a sharp bend. Continue east on Big Tujunga Canyon Road for 12.0 miles, then turn left onto Angeles Forest Highway. The main Monkey Canyon turnout appears after 2.2 miles. Follow the same parking procedure as above. From the north side of the street, locate openings in the vegetation and descend using available ropes along the hillside and a large log, then down slippery wet rocks. Upon reaching the creek bed, turn left and enter it. Exit immediately on the left and traverse large boulders, eventually crossing the creek to its right side. Cross back toward a large boulder forming a crevice with the mountainside and carefully descend through it. Swim downstream through the creek, exiting on the right when safe. Walk along the creek, then reenter and swim downstream as it becomes shallower. Walk further downstream, exiting on the right, continue over boulders heading downstream until the Monkey Canyon cliffs become visible.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
