About this spot

This location ranks among the top cliff jumping destinations on Deep Creek, offering good accessibility along with excellent jump options and reliable water conditions. The site garnered attention in a 2003 National Geographic feature. The primary jump measures 35 feet, and a distinctive pyramid-shaped rock formation rises to approximately 50 feet. To reach the area from San Bernardino, drive north on Waterman Avenue/Highway 18 into the mountain range. Continue north on Highway 173 after turning left, then turn right onto Hooks Creek Road near Cedar Glen. As the road descends and becomes unpaved, keep right at a sign indicating Splinters cabin trailhead at 1/4 mile. An Adventure Pass is required for parking. Walk the trail to a metal footbridge—do not cross it. Instead, proceed north along the PCT for roughly ten minutes until spotting a clear trail descending sharply to your right toward the creek. If you encounter the creek bending sharply right at a cliff face while your trail continues straight, you've hiked beyond the turnoff. Head down this path to the main jump area, or veer right at the jump rocks and wade across the upper pool to reach sunning rocks and additional smaller jumps on the opposite cliff side.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
