About this spot

Located in the granite gorge beneath Sequoia National Park's main headquarters, this spot offers takeoff points reaching heights of 70 feet. Water depth ranges between 30 and 40 feet. During late summer months, once river levels drop following spring runoff, water temperatures climb above 70 degrees, and daytime air temperatures typically reach around 95 degrees. The granite surfaces are notably smooth and slippery when wet. To access the site, take Highway 198 eastbound from Highway 99 near Visalia, California, and travel 40 miles through town to Sequoia National Park. After paying the entrance fee, continue three-quarters of a mile to a parking pullout on the right side, positioned one-quarter mile before reaching the Visitor Center at Ash Mountain headquarters. An alternate parking area sits one-quarter mile further east. From the main parking area, locate the trail on the western side of the fenced headquarters compound. The route to the river covers approximately one-quarter mile with roughly 100 feet of elevation descent. The hike is relatively straightforward and suitable for most fitness levels.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
