About this spot
To reach the Arch in San Diego, take Interstate 8 westbound to its terminus, turn left at the traffic light, and stay in the right lane onto Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. Continue south approximately 2 miles until you locate the ocean overlook parking areas, spaced roughly 100 yards apart. The third parking spot sits directly in front of oceanfront residences and offers views of a distinctive rock formation on the left side and Ocean Beach Pier to the right. Warning signs about cliff jumping fines are posted throughout the area. This location serves as both a popular surfing and fishing destination. The natural rock arch penetrates completely through the sandstone and creates a pool suitable for snorkeling and diving, though tide surge requires caution. The water depth reaches just under 20 feet at high tide, with 4 to 5 distinct jump levels available. Law enforcement presence is lighter during winter months, though officers occasionally position themselves at nearby lots with binoculars for observation. Exiting the water and climbing back up proves straightforward. The area frequently attracts spectators within minutes.
