About this spot
This location sits in a granite canyon downstream from the Sequoia National Park visitor headquarters. The spot offers multiple drop points ranging up to 70 feet high. The river maintains substantial depth, approximately 30 to 40 feet. During late summer months when water levels recede following spring snowmelt, temperatures reach above 70 degrees and conditions become safer. Summer air temperatures typically climb to around 95 degrees. The granite surfaces are notably smooth and slippery. Access involves a straightforward quarter-mile walk to reach the water. From Highway 99 in California, take Highway 198 heading east toward Visalia. Travel 40 miles along Highway 198 through Visalia to reach Sequoia National Park. Pay the entrance fee at the park gate. Continue three-quarters of a mile to a parking area on the right side. This pullout is positioned one-quarter mile before the Visitor Center at Ash Mountain headquarters. Additional parking exists in a lot one-quarter mile further east. From the parking area, locate a trail on the west side of the fenced headquarters compound. The route descends approximately one-quarter mile with about 100 feet of elevation drop to reach the river.
