About this spot
Millers Pond State Park in Durham/Haddam, CT centers on the 33-acre Millers Pond, reached from a parking area on Foot Hills Road (off Route 155/Millbrook Road). A loop trail passes rock outcrops along the shoreline that people jump from, but this is genuinely dangerous: at least five people have drowned in the pond since 2000, most linked to cliff jumping, and the natural pond has sudden depth changes, hidden debris, and low visibility. There is no lifeguard and no official sanction for jumping here — it happens despite, not because of, park rules. If you go, treat it as a serious risk, check depth and clearance yourself, and never jump alone or into water you haven't personally checked that day.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
