About this spot

Long Creek Falls sits on the Appalachian Trail near Three Forks, about 4 miles from Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. Reach it via an easy, mostly flat 1-mile hike from the Three Forks parking area off Doublehead Gap Road (the final approach is a rough gravel forest road, best with higher clearance after rain). The falls drop roughly 25-50 feet in two tiers over a broad rock face into a pool at the base. Water stays cold (55-65°F) even in summer, and the spot is a well-known wading and cooling-off stop for AT and Benton MacKaye Trail hikers. Slick rock and fast current are the real hazard; guides caution against climbing on or jumping from the ledges. Access is free, unrestricted National Forest land.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly.
