About this spot
Jacks River Falls sits deep in the Cohutta Wilderness, reached by a strenuous roughly 9-mile hike from the Dally Gap trailhead (or a shorter, steeper ~4.5-mile approach via Beech Bottom Trail), with numerous river crossings and no vehicle shortcuts. The two-tier falls drop about 80 feet into a reportedly 30-foot-deep plunge pool. Jumpers use a 15-foot ledge above a shallower upper pool (~10 ft) or the more serious 20-foot high point at the main falls. The hazard that matters: powerful current can pull swimmers under the falling water or push them onto a submerged rock shelf. No permits required, but it's true wilderness - go on a weekday morning to avoid heavy summer crowds.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
