About this spot

This is Kahekili's Leap at Kaunolu, on Lana'i's remote south coast, not Oahu — the given pin was misplaced there entirely. From Lana'i City, head toward the airport and continue past it toward Kaumalapau Harbor; watch for a Kaunolu sign marking a left onto an unpaved road, then a right at a King Kamehameha marker toward the coastline. High-clearance or 4WD is required, and go only in dry conditions. Historical and park sources describe warriors leaping roughly 63 feet into about 12 feet of water, with a rock shelf near the base — a serious hazard. The site sits within the Kaunolu Village National Historic Landmark, so stay off archaeological features and cliff edges.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
