About this spot
Dickerson Quarry consists of two flooded former trap-rock (diabase) pits off Slate Quarry Road in Dickerson, Montgomery County, Maryland, near the Monocacy River. Regulars call the taller wall the 'Big' cliff at around 42 feet and the shorter one the 'Little' cliff at roughly 34 feet, with vertical rock sides and water reported to run very deep. Reaching the ponds involves a 20-30 minute walk through woods on private industrial land; visiting is trespassing, and the site is not maintained or supervised. Reported hazards include submerged mining equipment and structures left from active quarrying, so water entry carries real risk beyond the jump itself. Spring visits are said to be easier before vegetation fills in the approach.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
