About this spot
Located at Loch Raven Reservoir near Timonium, MD, this spot features cliffs ranging from 10-40 feet in height. The jump locations lack clear markings, so visitors without local guidance may need to scout the area themselves. The reservoir offers clean, still water and scenic surroundings that feel far removed from the Baltimore area. Beyond jumping, the location is suitable for casual swimming, and rope swings are available across the water on the opposite shoreline. Note that park rangers patrol by boat and may issue citations if they find people in the water, so awareness of ranger activity is advisable. To access the site, take exit 28 (Providence Rd north) from I-695 on the north side of the Baltimore Beltway. Continue north on Providence Rd for approximately 3 miles until it meets Loch Raven Drive at an intersection. Turn left onto Loch Raven Drive and travel about 2 miles until crossing a bridge over the reservoir. A beach appears on the left side just after the bridge, with a mountain biking trail entering the woods on the right side—this is the trail to use. Parking is free and legal along the road during most times and days, with numerous vehicles typically present from other park visitors. Follow the trail uphill for roughly half a mile until spotting a secondary path diverging right, marked by a large "No Trespassing" notice on a tree. Turn right and descend approximately 50 yards until the cliffs and water come into view. A brief rock scramble of a few feet is required to reach the actual jump locations.
