About this spot
Loch Raven Reservoir, a Baltimore City water-supply lake near Towson, Maryland, has a well-known informal cliff and rope-swing area reached from a small pull-off on Providence Road near its intersection with Loch Raven Drive — legal roadside parking is limited, so many park further south between Dogwood Hill and Roxleigh Roads and walk in. A trail drops about half a mile to rocks and rope swings over water 10-40 feet below, clean and scenic but cold enough to risk hypothermia. Baltimore City rules explicitly prohibit swimming, wading, and bathing anywhere on the reservoir, with fines up to $1,000 and possible jail time, and rangers do patrol; treat any time in the water here as against the rules.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
