About this spot
As of 8/1/09, access appears restricted at the main entry point. A security officer at the south entrance reported that the electric company controlling the access road has begun enforcing trespassing prohibitions following an injury incident. The quarry itself is owned by a separate entity that has permitted use of the site. Alternative access may be available from the north or through other trails, though entry involves risk. The quarry itself measures roughly 100 feet in depth with sheer vertical walls on all sides, comparable in size to two Olympic swimming pools. Three jump platforms are available, estimated at 10 feet, 30 feet, and 60 feet respectively, along with a rope swing. The site is suitable for swimming, relaxing, and reading in addition to cliff jumping. From Boston, take the Mass Pike westbound to Exit 2, then follow directions toward Great Barrington and the Berkshires. On Great Barrington's main street, turn right and follow signs for Route 41 north. Continue on Route 41 north for approximately 10 minutes until East Alford Road appears on your left; turn onto it. Continue past the bridge, and after the road curves left, parking is available on the left shoulder. Walk back toward the bridge on foot and locate a path entrance. Follow this path for roughly 10 minutes to a fork offering left and straight options; bear left. Two stream crossings are necessary. After climbing from the second crossing, a prominent 150-foot white rock face becomes visible. Proceeding further uphill over the ridge reveals the quarry location.
