About this spot

Located near La'Anse in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, access this site by heading south on US 41 past Alberta and the Michigan Tech forestry campus. A roadside park marks Canyon River Falls on the right side of the road. After parking, hike back toward the falls, passing through a viewing area, then continue approximately a quarter mile further. The river descends on your left as the trail rises. Look for an opening in the cliff face near a prominent boulder on the right side where a small waterfall roughly 6 feet tall has created a notably deep pool. This is the primary jumping location. The surrounding water maintains adequate depth in the immediate vicinity of the waterfall. Multiple jump points exist from various ledges, with the tallest reaching approximately 30 feet. This is a well-known local destination that typically draws visitors on favorable weather days.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
