About this spot
Wolf Creek Falls is a 12-foot drop where spring-fed Wolf Creek meets the Kettle River inside Banning State Park near Sandstone, Minnesota. It's reached by a roughly 3.4-mile round-trip hike combining the Quarry Loop, Deadman's, and High Bluff or Wolf Creek trails, or by canoeing upstream from Robinson Park at moderate water levels. Visitors wade and dip in at spots along the creek and river confluence, part of an established local swimming-hole tradition. This stretch of the Kettle River also has whitewater nearby, so currents can be strong and unpredictable, especially after rain, and rock is slick near the falls. Access is free through the Minnesota state park system, though a state park vehicle permit is typically required.
