About this spot
Pollard Mills Falls is a series of stepped cascades on the Sugar River in Newport, reached via a small parking area at the end of Falls Road. Water drops through several ledges into pools; the uppermost pothole is roughly 6-7 feet deep and is the spot locals jump into. The site sits on private land, but the owner has long tolerated swimmers and jumpers—no trespassing after dark, and that's enforced. Rock around the pools is steep and slick, and current through the chutes runs strong, especially after rain, so scout pothole depth before jumping and skip the lower ledges.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
