About this spot

Splitrock Reservoir sits inside Rockaway Township's Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area and Farny State Park, and is a well-known, heavily documented cliff-jumping spot in Morris County. Park at the gravel lot off Split Rock Road, reached via Green Pond Road from Route 80; a roughly 40-minute hike through the woods leads to jump ledges reportedly around 20-25 feet and 35 feet above the water. Rockaway Township has posted no-swimming signage on the tall cliff face and has actively enforced the ban in recent years, including blocking the old parking area to increase patrols. Jumping here is officially prohibited and citations are possible. Hazards include slippery, lichen-covered rock, no lifeguards, and cold, deep reservoir water. Expect enforcement.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly.
