About this spot

Located roughly 45 minutes south of Albany, this former quarry site features rock faces between 15 and 40 feet tall. To access it, take Route 23 east from Exit 21 off the NY State Thruway and cross the Rip Van Winkle Bridge toward Hudson. After the first traffic light on the Columbia County side (approximately 3 miles past the bridge), turn left onto Fingar Road. At the initial stop sign, turn left onto Newman Road and continue about a mile and a half. You'll spot flooded quarries on both sides of the road—head toward the ones on your right, as the left side remains part of an operational mining facility. Several footpaths lead to the jumping areas. Law enforcement regularly patrols this location and will remove trespassers, so parking away from the site and walking or cycling in is advisable. The quarry retains pleasant temperatures during summer months, providing suitable conditions for jumpers of varying experience levels.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
