About this spot

Setrock Creek Falls is a roughly 55-75-foot cascade in Pisgah National Forest near Burnsville, North Carolina, at the base of Mount Mitchell, reached by a short, family-friendly out-and-back trail of about 1.2 miles round trip from South Toe River Road. The falls empty into a flat, shallow-edged pool that locals and hikers use for wading, cooling off, and jumping on warm days, making it one of the more approachable jump spots in the area. Flow drops to a trickle in dry weather, so check conditions before visiting. As of 2026 the trailhead remains affected by Hurricane Helene damage, with fallen trees and debris blocking sections of the trail — call ahead or check current Forest Service status. Parking is across from Black Mountain Campground; access is legal, public national forest land.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly.
