About this spot

Bard Falls is a roughly 30-foot waterfall on North Harper Creek in the Wilson Creek area of Pisgah National Forest, reached via a 3.5-mile round-trip hike from the North Harper Shortcut trailhead off a gravel forest road (high-clearance recommended for the final miles). The route wades North Harper Creek and finishes with a steep scramble down to the base, where a deep pool collects below the falls -- a popular cooling-off spot for hikers exploring the Wilson Creek Scenic River watershed. A pothole worn into the rock sits beside the falls. The main hazard is the creek crossing and loose, wet rock on the descent rather than the pool itself; the drive in is remote with no cell service. Best visited outside high-water periods.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly.
