About this spot

Spring Creek Falls is a low sliding cascade on Spring Creek at the Rocky Bluff Recreation Area, about 3 miles south of Hot Springs via NC-209. Park at Rocky Bluff Campground (free day use; camping ~$8/night, open May-October) and follow the flat, family-friendly Spring Creek Nature Trail along the water. The drop itself is modest, well under 10 feet and more a rock slide than a true waterfall, but the creek is a well-documented local swimming and wading spot with several pools reached directly from the trail. Water runs cold and is stocked for trout fishing, and rocks stay slick with algae, so footing near the slide is the hazard that matters more than height. Access sits on National Forest land with no fees or permits required for day visits.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly.
