About this spot

Glen Marie Falls is a three-tiered, roughly 60-75 ft waterfall on New Year's Creek, reached via Blowing Rock's free, public Glen Burney Trail (trailhead at 243 Laurel Lane, beside Annie Cannon Memorial Park). It's about 1.6 miles one-way and drops nearly 600 ft past Glen Burney Falls before reaching Glen Marie's base. A well-known swimming hole sits at the foot of the falls and gets crowded on warm weekends. The upper tiers aren't visible from the pool below. The real hazard is footing, not the water: rocks around the base stay wet and slick, and the return climb out is steep. Jumping from the falls itself is not documented; treat this as a swimming hole, and scout water depth before entering.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
