About this spot

Beverly Hillbilly Falls is a double-slide waterfall on Steels Creek in Pisgah National Forest, reached by a roughly 2-mile round-trip hike off FR228/NC-181 that includes creek-walking to the base. The creek slides down a steep rock face, turns sharply through a narrow chute, and lands in a deep pool used for swimming. It's a known canyoneering spot with a bolted rappel anchor documented on RopeWiki, plus multiple trip reports and a YouTube video covering the Steels Creek/Teacups/Beverly Hillbilly loop. Hazards include exposed rappelling and scrambling terrain, strong current and hydraulics in high water, slick rock, and a remote location with no cell service, so outside help is slow. FR228's access gate is locked January 1 to April 1.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
