About this spot
Upper Falls is the first drop of Linville Falls at Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 316.3, reached via short paved paths from the Linville Falls Visitor Center (free, NPS land). It is a scenic overlook, not a swimming hole: the Linville River runs swift and cold through the gorge here, and the Parkway explicitly bans swimming and rock-climbing at this section — retaining walls mark the safe viewing limit. No documented jump or swim culture exists at this specific drop; visitors come for the view into Linville Gorge, not the water. Downstream sections of the gorge do see informal swimming, but not here.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
