About this spot
Koberg Beach State Recreation Site sits on the Columbia River about 3 miles east of Hood River, just off I-84. It's a free, year-round day-use park with a small beach screened from the freeway by a large basalt outcrop. That rock is the area's main draw: locals jump from ledges ranging from about 2 feet up to roughly 150 feet, though going higher means circling further around the rock and a longer swim back to shore. Current and submerged rock make the upper heights genuinely dangerous, and river temperature stays cold even in summer. No permits are required, but parking is limited on busy days.
