About this spot

Freedom Falls drops about 20 feet over a 50-to-60-foot-wide sandstone ledge into a pool along Shull Run, reached by a short but steep quarter-mile dirt path off unpaved Rockland Station Road in rural Venango County. The plunge pool at the base forms a well-known local swimming hole in warm months, staying cool even in summer heat. A hundred yards downstream sit the moss-covered ruins of the 1832 Rockland Furnace, a National Register historic site worth the extra walk. Access is free and legal, with no gate, fee, or attendant, but also no lifeguard, railing, or posted depth markers — this is strictly an at-your-own-risk spot with exposed roots and slick rock on the approach. The trailhead is unmarked, so GPS is essentially required to find it.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
