About this spot

Laurel Fork Falls drops about 80 feet in three tiers into a narrow cove at the Toxaway River arm of Lake Jocassee, in the Jocassee Gorges Wildlife Management Area near Sunset, SC. Reach it by an 8+ mile one-way hike on the Foothills Trail, or more commonly by kayak or boat from the Devils Fork State Park ramp. The middle tier holds a rock-rimmed pool where hikers and paddlers jump and swim; the water stays cold year-round, so late summer is the easiest time to visit. The site is remote with no cell service and no lifeguards, so misjudging depth or rock placement carries real risk. Public land, no fee, but access is genuinely strenuous or boat-dependent.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
