About this spot

Located at 37221 F.M. 187 in Vanderpool, TX 78885, approximately two hours west-northwest of San Antonio. From San Antonio, take 90 West to Sabinal (roughly 55 miles), turn right onto Route 127 for about a mile, then take Route 187 right for approximately 45 miles. The Lone Star Motorcycle Museum serves as a nearby landmark, appearing on your left less than a mile past the entrance. Entry requires a $6 per adult fee at the park gate, where you'll receive a vehicle receipt at the welcoming center. Note that jumping is officially prohibited—a sign at the trailhead forbids this activity, though swimming occurs at your own risk per park signage. From the welcoming center, drive roughly a mile to a road fork and bear left, crossing a small river to reach the bird watching area parking lot. Follow the hiking trail along Can Creek for about a mile. After encountering the creek multiple times, at the second crossing stay right with the creek on your left. Where the creek makes a sharp leftward bend sits a small relaxation and picnic area, which is the jumping location. The water reaches depths of approximately 4-5 meters depending on rainfall. The primary jump stands around 14 meters high, with one or two additional jump sites nearby at roughly 10 meters. Snakes inhabit the water, requiring caution before jumping. Park rangers patrol the area, and the hiking trail accommodates maintenance vehicles.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
