About this spot
Travel from Salt Lake City to Big Cottonwood Canyon, home to Solitude and Brighton Ski Resorts. Drive approximately 8 miles to reach the top of the canyon and leave your vehicle at Brighton. Follow the ski lift path upward for roughly 15 minutes until spotting a Lake Mary marker on the left side. Continue hiking for an additional 15 minutes to arrive at the lake. Multiple jumping locations are available throughout this compact but notably deep body of water. The highest jump at this location requires substantial clearance away from the adjacent rock face to ensure safe landing. This area functions as a municipal watershed for Salt Lake City, making swimming and cliff jumping prohibited by law.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
