About this spot
This is the longest and reportedly tallest bridge in Utah, situated just west of Duchesne on Highway 40, spanning Starvation Reservoir. Duchesne lies approximately 100 miles east of Salt Lake City. To reach it from Heber traveling east on Highway 40 takes roughly an hour; the terrain changes noticeably several times along the route. The area offers fishing, boating, and camping opportunities at the reservoir. Law enforcement actively discourages jumping from this bridge and has threatened arrest, though visibility extends far in both directions, allowing jumpers to monitor for oncoming authorities. The height creates significant impact force—wear shoes to protect your feet and legs from injury. Wind patterns in this valley location can be unpredictable and forceful, potentially deflecting jumpers sideways mid-air and resulting in dangerous landings. Multiple fatalities have been reported from this location over the years, though specific verification remains unclear. The water level fluctuates seasonally, making the jump height variable between 70 and 80 feet. Jumpers should enter from the ledge just below the top railing, approximately 1 foot below it, positioning themselves roughly 8 feet to the right of the nearest pillar when jumping straight out. The water depth is sufficient for jumping in most areas except near the immediate edges. The extreme altitude creates rapid acceleration and intense velocity during the fall.
