About this spot

Huntington Gorge is a narrow slot canyon on the Huntington River in Richmond, reached via Dugway Road, where a small pull-off (room for 6-7 cars) sits on private land the owner still allows the public to cross. Cascades and pools sit below rock walls, with swimming holes tucked between chutes and horsetail falls. It carries the grimmest reputation of any Vermont swimming hole: estimates range from roughly two dozen to over forty drownings since the 1950s, caused by underwater caves, submerged rocks, and currents strong enough to trap swimmers. Access is tolerated rather than guaranteed and could be revoked at any time; treat every pool here as more dangerous than it looks.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
