About this spot

Old City Falls Nature Preserve in Strafford, VT has free town-maintained parking off Old City Falls Road, with a short (roughly 100-foot to half-mile, depending on route) trail down to the falls. A 100-foot gorge holds a 40-45-foot boulder-strewn waterfall feeding two deep, clear pools; this lower pool is the one most visitors reach first via the steep descent trail. Swimming here is well documented across the town website, Vermont 251 Adventures, Tripadvisor, and New England Waterfalls. The hazard that matters most is footing: the rock is reported as very slippery and the steep trail to the base has caused falls. Flow peaks April-June. Open to the public, no fee or permit; respect posted preserve rules.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
