About this spot
Elkhorn Lake is a 54-acre U.S. Forest Service reservoir near Mount Solon, reached via I-66/I-81 to Route 250, then rough gravel Braley Pond Rd to the lake. Jumps are off the dam wall near the campground, alongside a designated swim beach and platform. Heights are modest and not officially documented — treat any dam-wall jump as unverified until you inspect it. Main hazards are submerged rock and uneven bottom near the dam base, plus cold mountain water; 2026 has brought widespread Virginia drought, so lake levels may be down — check current conditions before visiting.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
