About this spot

Starting from Seattle, head east on I-90 for approximately 150 miles to exit 151. Navigate the unusual intersection to reach WA283 heading toward Ephrata and Soap Lake. Continue on WA283 for 15 miles until it transforms into WA28, then proceed another 11 miles before turning left onto WA17. Travel north for 17 miles until you see the Sun Lakes State Park entrance on your right. Drive into the park following Deep Lake directional markers, traveling a couple miles beyond the main camping zone to reach the parking area. From there, take the trail along the left side of the lake. The path initially presents smaller jumps that progressively increase in size as you advance. The uneven basalt surface creates challenging footing, and submerged ledges require careful clearance. While experienced jumpers will find most options suitable, fewer choices exist for beginners, though the variety allows jumps ranging from 5 feet to significantly higher. The lake has been closed multiple times in recent years for body recovery. Park rangers actively enforce alcohol policies with substantial fines, making this an unsuitable location for drinking.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
