About this spot
Start from Seattle and drive east on I-90 approximately 150 miles to exit 151. Navigate the unusual intersection to connect with WA283 heading toward Ephrata and Soap Lake. Continue on WA283 for roughly 15 miles until it becomes WA28, then travel another 11 miles before turning left onto WA17. Head north for approximately 17 miles until you reach the entrance to Sun Lakes State Park on your right. Navigate into the park following directional signs toward Deep Lake, located a couple miles beyond the main camping facilities. Park and take the leftmost trail along the lake's edge. The path begins with smaller formations that progressively increase in height. The basalt substrate provides unstable footing in places, and submerged rock shelves require careful navigation. While most formations suit experienced jumpers, only select options work for beginners. The site offers formations ranging from 5 feet to significantly higher. Jump heights span from modest to extremely hazardous. Fatalities have occurred at this location with sufficient regularity that closure for body recovery has happened on multiple occasions. Park staff actively enforce alcohol restrictions with substantial fines for violations. Intoxicated individuals should not access this area. Use sound decision-making and cautious approach selection.
