About this spot

From Portland, travel north on I-5 through Washington to Seattle, then continue on I-5 north to exit 194. Take State Highway 2 east from there, following it for 121 miles as it crosses Stevens Pass and descends the eastern Cascade slopes into Wenatchee. Continue on Highway 2 across the Columbia River and north for 13 miles through Orondo, then stay on Highway 2 heading east for another 48 miles to Coulee City. After stopping for gas, turn left onto Route 155 heading north. Banks Lake will be on your left for approximately 18 miles until you reach a small community area. Park along Route 155 on the left side, about 3 miles past Steamboat Rock State Park entrance and roughly 1 mile before Osbourne. Other vehicles at the location will help confirm you're in the right spot, though the lake isn't visible from the parking area. A trail heading west is clearly marked from the parking area. After a 500-yard walk through sagebrush and tumbleweeds, the lake comes into view. The water temperature reaches approximately 85 degrees in summer. This region experiences extreme heat, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees in August. Dehydration poses a serious risk and can lead to cramping and dangerous situations. Bring substantial quantities of water and sunscreen. Jet skis operate in the area, so avoid landing on one. Being adequately hydrated before and during your visit is essential for safety.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
