About this spot
Little Falls, widely known as Martha's Falls or the "Hippie Hole," is a popular swimming and cliff-jumping spot on the Little River in Little River Canyon National Preserve. From the free Little River Falls parking area on AL-35, the Little Falls Trail drops about 0.75 miles, including roughly 137 stone steps, into the canyon. Water spreads over a wide sandstone ledge into a deep pool, with jumps ranging from easy 10-foot ledges up to a committing 35-foot leap off the stone arch. The main hazard is that pool depth and current shift with rainfall and upstream releases, so conditions vary day to day; check flow before jumping. Day-use access within the National Preserve is legal and free, with no permit required.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
