About this spot
Mooney Falls is Havasupai's tallest waterfall, a roughly 200-foot travertine cascade reached by descending chains, ladders, and bolts drilled into the cliff just past the campground. The exposed climb has been fatal for careless hikers, so keep three points of contact at all times. At the base, a striking blue-green pool draws swimmers, but currents and undertow near the plunge itself have caused drownings, so avoid swimming directly under or behind the falls. Cliff jumping is officially banned reservation-wide by the Havasupai Tribe, with rangers enforcing the rule. Entry requires a paid tribal permit and reservation, and the falls sit an 8-10 mile hike (or mule/helicopter ride) from Hualapai Hilltop.
