About this spot
Middle Falls is a 40-foot curtain waterfall on the upper McCloud River, reached by a short quarter-mile path from a signed parking area and overlook near Mount Shasta; access is free with no permit. It's one of Northern California's most established cliff-jumping spots, with three recognized jump points documented across guides and video — roughly 35 and 50 feet, plus a higher line near 75 feet beside the falls. The hazard that matters: pool depth and rock placement shift with the McCloud's spring-fed flow, and the tallest jumps clear ledges below, so scout each jump from the water first and skip the higher lines at low flow.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
