About this spot

High-clearance vehicle recommended for this location. From Ukiah or Eureka, take Highway 101 to Highway 20 toward Upper Lake. Continue on Highway 20 past Mendocino Lake until the next passing lane, then turn left onto Potter Valley Road. Follow Potter Valley Road for about 10 minutes until you reach Potter Valley town's main street. Turn right on Eel River Road near a small gas station and bar. Drive up the mountain and take the right fork at the summit, merging back onto Eel River Road. Before crossing a bridge, turn right onto a dirt road. Pass through or around a gate and continue on the dirt road for 3 miles, passing two left turns before taking the third left turn onto an open road where both hippie rocks are visible. Rock positions shift seasonally, so inspect your jump area before proceeding. The surrounding land is privately owned, so stay on correct roads to avoid trespassing issues.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
