About this spot

Sid Bell Falls - long known locally as Handcock Falls, Little Falls, or Horseshoe Falls - sits in a shoreline cove of Lake Cumberland where Hancock Creek empties in, near Alpha/Watauga in Clinton County, Kentucky. The Army Corps of Engineers officially adopted the Sid Bell name in 2022. It's water-access only: boaters idle into the cove to see the falls, which run over a modest ledge a few feet high and are best seen after the reservoir pool drops following its spring fill. Regulars describe the cove as family-friendly for wading and photos rather than a serious jump spot - no documented cliff-jumping culture, just a popular swim-and-picnic stop. Hazards include slick submerged rock, fluctuating lake levels, and boat traffic in the cove; no permit is required on this Corps-managed public shoreline.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
