Smalls Falls is a well-known roadside swimming and jumping stop right off Route 4, about 16 miles south of Rangeley (or 30 miles north of Farmington), with a marked rest area offering parking, pit toilets, and picnic tables. A short, easy half-mile trail leads to a tiered set of drops — reportedly around 54 feet total, in segments from roughly 3 to 25 feet — with a popular ~14-foot jump into a plunge pool below. Water levels vary seasonally and dropped very low during 2025 drought conditions, so check current flow before jumping. Wet rock is the main reported hazard; sources caution against climbing slick ledges near the falls. It's an easily accessible, popular spot with no unusual access restrictions reported.
