About this spot

Traveling south from La'Anse on US 41, pass through Alberta and the Michigan Tech forestry campus to find a roadside park for Canyon River Falls on the right side. Leave your vehicle in the lot and walk back toward the falls. Beyond the main viewing area, continue approximately a quarter mile further where the river begins descending on your left and the trail rises. Look for an opening in the cliff face beside a prominent boulder on the right side, where a modest waterfall roughly 6 feet tall has created a notably deep pool. This is the jumping location. Multiple ledges are available, with the tallest reaching approximately 30 feet. The water maintains adequate depth in the vicinity directly beneath the waterfall. Due to its popularity among area residents, visitors often encounter other jumpers during favorable weather.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
