About this spot
Known locally as "The Deeps," this Amity Creek cascade in Lester Park is one of Duluth's classic cliff-jumping swimming holes, with jumps of roughly 25 feet into a plunge pool. Park at the Lester River Road lot just north of Superior Street and cross the stone pedestrian bridge, or follow park trails along Amity Creek to reach the falls directly. It's popular with teens and college students in summer. Current and depth change fast after rain, and at least one cliff-jumping death has been reported here — check water depth and clarity before jumping, and never dive headfirst. No fees or permits required.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
