About this spot

Yaak Falls sits on the Yaak River in Kootenai National Forest, about 16 miles northwest of Troy in Montana's remote northwest corner, near Yaak River Falls Campground. A gravel forest road runs alongside the river with pullouts for parking; no fee is reported for day access. The falls empty into a deep natural pool that locals and visitors have documented for years as a favorite summer swimming hole, and cliff jumps from streamside rock ledges, commonly cited around 35 feet, have been filmed and posted repeatedly by different creators across multiple seasons. Water levels, clarity, and submerged rock exposure shift with snowmelt, so scout depth and current before jumping, especially early in summer. The valley is very remote with no lifeguard, cell service is unreliable, and crowds build on weekends. Access appears to be on public National Forest land.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
