About this spot
Secret Cove is a granite-boulder beach on Lake Tahoe's Nevada east shore, reached by a short but moderately steep half-mile trail off Highway 28/89 near the Chimney Beach trailhead lot. Large rounded boulders along the shoreline are popular for sunbathing and for jumping into the lake's clear, very cold water; several travel guides and hiking sites describe visitors climbing and jumping from the rocks. It's also a well-known clothing-optional beach, though clothed visitors, couples, and families use it too. Hazards are typical of Tahoe granite: submerged rocks near the boulders mean depth and clearance must be scouted before jumping, and the cold water can sap strength quickly. Parking at the trailhead fills early on summer weekends, so arrive early.
